Our Sector: A New Common Sense on Campus?

Under the reassuring veneer of ‘professionalism’, it is the staff that lead the development of this, potentially far more utopian or even revolutionary, three to five year game plan. Meanwhile, trustee boards, senior staff and management worry instead that ‘students could decide to do anything’, but so rarely do, in their policy creating processes. So while we might believe that students are being political and staff aren’t, staff are unconsciously being political and students unconsciously aren’t. Regardless, it may be interesting to consider what a three or five year ‘strategic plan’ made up of political demands rather than technocratic objectives might look like.
