The Equality and Human Rights Commission have published their guidance on gender segregation for universities and students’ unions: Gender Segregation at Events and Meetings.
You’ll recall that UUK got themselves into difficult water earlier this year over a case study in a UUK publication on Gender Segregation. The EHRC guidance confirms that enforced gender segregation is never acceptable, further stating that voluntary gender segregation is permissible in limited circumstances and where there is no disadvantage (pages 5-6), noting the practical difficulties of demonstrating that the segregation is truly voluntary.
